CALL FOR ENTRIES: CUMNH NORTH ENTRANCE VESTIBULE

PROJECT DATES: Selection announced Friday, March 23rd, 2012; Installation completed no later than Friday, April 20th, 2012.
DESCRIPTION: The University of Colorado Museum of Natural History is seeking proposals from current University of Colorado students for a temporary art installation to be exhibited within the North entrance vestibule of the Henderson building on the CU-Boulder campus.
SPECIFICATIONS: this proposal is open to all 2D and 3D media, computer based presentations, audio, and lighting projects. Collaborations across disciplines are encouraged. Proposals may be submitted by both individuals and groups. Vestibule space measures approximately 13.5'L x 7.5'D x 11'H, (see attached floor plan) All proposals must conform to ADA guidelines and must be non-permanent. Applicants are required to visit the vestibule space prior to submitting a proposal.
SELECTION PROCESS: The chosen proposal will create an immersive environment that will enhance the visitor experience of the museum. The installation will be based on the theme of “Water”. The accepted proposal will address the theme in a manner that is in keeping with the mission of the museum to foster exploration and appreciation of the natural world and human cultures. Proposals may also include information related to “Colorado Water 2012” which strives to promote statewide celebration of water past, present, and future. Selection criteria will include: the best integration of the work to the space, creative response to the theme, clear and comprehensive design proposal and demonstration of ability to the project (examples of previous works, CV/resume, etc.)
TO SUBMIT: Proposals must be submitted electronically and include a completed application form, a detailed written description of the installation, and floor plans, sketches, or other visual renderings. A budget estimate and production timeline estimate are also required. A resume, C/V, or artist's portfolio may also be included but are not required. AWARD: A panel consisting of Museum of Natural History staff will review all proposals. A combined stipend of $800 will be awarded to the winning proposal; the award will consist of a $300 honorarium (this can be split by up to two individuals if a group proposal is selected) and a $500 budget to help with material expenses.
DISCLAIMER: To ensure that all security and safety considerations are met, Museum Exhibits staff will assist with the coordination of project installation. Additionally, the museum reserves the right to de-install the project at any time.
