SCHOLARSHIPS & AWARDS

Museum Awards Program:

PURPOSE: To encourage interest in museum activities by providing support for selected students in museum-related studies, including the life sciences, earth sciences, history, fine arts, and anthropology. Awards are funded by the William H. Burt Museum Fund.

QUALIFICATIONS: University of Colorado, Boulder students with excellent scholastic record in the museum or a natural history or humanities department. CU undergraduate and graduate students, as well as Colorado citizens are eligible to apply. Preference will be given to first time applicants.

GRANT AMOUNT: One request may be submitted per applicant and the award request may not exceed $1,200. The award is to be applied to a project within 12 months of when the award was granted (May 1).

CALL FOR ENTRIES: CUMNH NORTH ENTRANCE VESTIBULE

DESCRIPTION: The University of Colorado Museum of Natural History is seeking proposals from current University of Colorado students for a temporary art installation to be exhibited within the North entrance vestibule of the Henderson building on the CU-Boulder campus.

SELECTION PROCESS: The chosen proposal will create an immersive environment that will enhance the visitor experience of the museum. The installation will be based on the theme of “Water”. The accepted proposal will address the theme in a manner that is in keeping with the mission of the museum to foster exploration and appreciation of the natural world and human cultures. Proposals may also include information related to “Colorado Water 2012” which strives to promote statewide celebration of water past, present, and future.

AWARD: A panel consisting of Museum of Natural History staff will review all proposals. A combined stipend of $800 will be awarded to the winning proposal; the award will consist of a $300 honorarium (this can be split by up to two individuals if a group proposal is selected) and a $500 budget to help with material expenses.

Clark Scholarship Fund:

PURPOSE: To support Native American students in museum studies and museum-related studies, such as life sciences, earth sciences, history, fine arts, and anthropology.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must be Native American, and first time applicants are given preference.

GRANT AMOUNT: Generally, up to $2,500 for a 12-month period. Under normal circumstances awards are not renewable.
