Fishes

The majority of the 1,900 lots of fish specimens at the University of Colorado Museum were collected from Colorado, although there is a worldwide representation of both marine and freshwater species. Most of the specimens in the collection are presently being used in teaching and are an important resource for this purpose. Many specimens were collected in the early 1900s by Max Ellis, including several hundred from Guyana, and represent significant historical documentation. Recent donations from Robert Behnke (Colorado State University) and from Harold Tyus (Associate Curator) will enhance this collection as a resource for Colorado species.
