Amphibians and Reptiles

The collection of 61,000+ reptiles and amphibians documents the careers of the late Professor T. Paul Maslin and world-renowned herpetologist Hobart M. Smith, who continues to contribute. The collection includes 180 type specimens (holotypes or paratypes). Although the collection is well represented worldwide, its strength resides in the southwestern United States (Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona) and in Mexico. The amphibian/reptile collection is the Zoology Section's most significant vertebrate collection in terms of size and use. Additionally, educational collections are maintained for use by university classes and K-12 education.
