Introduction

The following list of 1108 names is a working list of the Bees of Colorado. It is important to realize that this list is a preliminary draft with known errors. It will be revised as more study is done on Colorado bees. Do not use as an authoritative list. Updates to follow. Last revised July 31, 2006.
The list includes bee species (or subspecies) that are documented to occur in Colorado or presumed to occur in Colorado because their known distribution straddles the state. For example, a species that occurs in both Kansas and Arizona would be included on this list. A species known to occur in New Mexico and Arizona would not be included on this list. Names marked with an asterisk (*) are dubious records that need further investigation.
Names are organized alphabetically within subgenus according to Michener 2000. Genera are listed within Tribe, Subfamily and Family. If you are looking for a particular species name but do not know the higher classification, please use the find feature on your web browser.
The numbers listed after the Family or Genus headings are the total number of species/subspecies listed within those groups.
This list was generated through use of literature and specimens in collections. Much more work remains to be done to refine and update the list. However, as it stands now it is a complete first draft based on the following literature and collections.
