Planning Your School Trip

Student contemplating one of the exhibits

Here are a few suggestions for what you can do to ensure that you and your group have a successful and educational visit at the Museum. If you have not done so already, register for one of the many field trip opportunities at the Museum.

Before Your Visit

  • Visit the museum before the class trip to orient yourself and explore the exhibits and facilities.
  • Discuss the upcoming trip with your students and relate the trip to your classroom studies.
  • Adapt and use the pre-visit activity ideas with your class.
  • Use one of the University of Colorado Museum of Natural History Classroom Resources as a pre-visit activity.

After Your Visit

  • Discuss the trip with your class - for example, the trip's positives and negatives, what was learned, what questions they have, or questions the trip may have raised.
  • Have students write about their museum experience.
  • Adapt and use the post-visit activity ideas with your class.
  • Use one of the University of Colorado Museum of Natural History Classroom Resources as a post-visit activity.
