Museum Awards

Walker Van Riper and William H. Burt Funds:

PURPOSE: To encourage interest in museum activities by providing support for selected students in museum-related studies, including the life sciences, earth sciences, history, fine arts, and anthropology.
 
QUALIFICATIONS: University of Colorado, Boulder students with excellent scholastic record in the museum or a natural history or humanities department. CU undergraduate and graduate students, as well as Colorado citizens are eligible to apply. Preference will be given to first time applicants.
 
GRANT AMOUNT: One request may be submitted per applicant and the award request may not exceed $1,500. The award is to be applied to a project within 12 months of when the award was granted (May 1).

APPLICATION DEADLINE: March 4, 2008

Clark Scholarship Fund:

PURPOSE: To support Native American students in museum studies and museum-related studies, such as life sciences, earth sciences, history, fine arts, and anthropology.
 
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must be Native American, and first time applicants are given preference.
 
GRANT AMOUNT: Generally, up to $2,500 for a 12-month period. Under normal circumstances awards are not renewable.
 
APPLICATION DEADLINE: March 4, 2008

Joe Ben Wheat Research Scholarship:

PURPOSE: The scholarship was established to honor the memory of Joe Ben Wheat, a leading scholar of the American Southwest. Dr. Wheat was a curator of the University of Colorado Museum of Natural History for over 40 years. He was a consummate scholar of the anthropology of the American Southwest and Colorado Plains. His work in Southwestern Indian jewelry, textiles, and pottery significantly expanded the scope and quality of the Museum's collections. His archaeological research in Paleoindian and Puebloan archaeology was original and challenging. The scholarship supports graduate studies in Dr. Wheat's areas of research.
 
QUALIFICATIONS: The applicant should be an exceptional graduate student in Anthropology, Archaeology, or Museum Studies with research focused on the American Southwest.
 
SCHOLARSHIP AMOUNT: A single scholarship of $2,500 is awarded annually.
 
APPLICATION DEADLINE: Deadline for application is March 17, 2008.
